“Anyone who appreciates cinema should see this movie, any casual movie lovers should also see this movie, as a matter of fact everyone should see this movie.” -NerdyPopcorn
Sam Mendes is at the top of the list for the Oscar for best director, if he wins it’ll best his second, he won at the 72nd Academy Awards for his first major motion picture, American Beauty. Since then he has Directed numerous big budget movies, none of the were met with the same critical acclaim, however, 1917 has. 21 years after his first win Mendes, who still shoot movies on film instead of digital, is taking us on the journey of a pair of British servicemen tasked with delivering a message in the middle of battle.
The cinematography is beautiful, the flow of the camera as it follows the character is flawless , even if you don’t like war movies you’ll be mesmerized by the camera work. The movie has a beautiful amount of tension, which is a result of the music, done by Thomas Newman, whose resume also includes American Beauty. What I absolutely love about this movie is that you could never guess what happens next, Mendes does a fantastic job capturing the uncertainty of war, which gives you a sense of dread as you watch the story unfold.
The two lead actors are virtually unknown, but Mendes accounts for this by surrounding them with Hollywood royalty, within the first 15 minutes you’ll see appearances by Colin Firth and Andrea Scott, brief but strong performances by both. 1917 is a perfect example of what can be achieved when you have some of the best in the world behind the scenes, the acting was fabulous, but what makes this story special is the collaboration between director/writer, cinematography, music, and photography.
This movie will win both Best Picture and Best Director. Entertainment value is through the roof, minimal slow and drawn out parts, and never a dull moment. Anyone who appreciates cinema should see this movie, any casual movie lovers should also see this movie, as a matter of fact everyone should see this movie.
The much anticipated second instalment of The Lego Movie is slated for release on February 8th, 2019, even at my age I thoroughly enjoyed the first one and can’t wait for the second.
I’m sure everyone will be happy to know that Chris Pratt will be returning to the franchise, but this time, he’ll be voicing two characters! While watching the trailer something stood out! His second character (Rex Dangervest) he’s described as a; Galaxy Defending, Archeologist, Cowboy, and Raptor Trainer.
In the early days of WWII, an international convoy of 37 Allied ships, led by captain Ernest Krause (Hanks) in his first command of a U.S. destroyer, crosses the treacherous North Atlantic while hotly pursued by wolf packs of Nazi U-boats.
Principal Photography has begun on the WWII dramatic thriller GREYHOUND, starring and written by Tom Hanks, based on C.S. Forester’s novel “The Good Shepherd.” Aaron Schneider (GET LOW) is directing.
Elisabeth Shue (BATTLE OF THE SEXES), Rob Morgan (MUDBOUND) and Stephen Graham (THE IRISHMAN) also star.
Early reaction to John Krasinski’s big screen directorial debut has been phenomenal and judging by the trailers I am not surprised at all. Each trailer has gotten better and better, I am really hoping this isn’t one of those cases where the trailer is better than the movie.
I am anxiously waiting for this one to hit theaters, it’s been a while since I’ve seen a proper scary movie in theaters.
Every summer viewers are blessed with the release of the year’s biggest blockbusters. I took some time to list some of the movies I’m most excited to see this summer.
Avengers: Infinity War (April 27th, 2018) – Rumor has it that the follow up Avengers movie is slated for release exactly one year after Infinity War is released.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018) – One Rumor that has been confirmed to be true, we will finally see how Han Solo acquired the Millennium Falcom from Lando!
The Incredibles 2 (June 15th, 2018) – I have been waiting for this for so long, the original was released in 2004! We’ve been waiting 14 years for this, let’s go already!
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 22nd, 2018) – This installment in the Jurassic franchise is being directed by J.A Bayona (The Orphanage, The Impossible, A Monster Calls), after watching the trailer I have a feeling this will be the most frightening film in the Jurassic collection.
Deadpool 2 (May 18th, 2018) – I mean it’s hard not to get excited about this movie. Ryan Reynolds is back as everybody’s favorite douchbag, Deadpool! Josh Brolin being added as the villain is awesome, I mean the guy is tough as nails, and is the perfect man to play Cable!
The first movie I ever saw in theaters was Jurassic Park, so it should come as no surprise that I am super excited for the release on the latest installment in the Jurassic Universe.
So far the biggest news I’ve seen is that Jeff Goldblum is set to return as Dr. Ian Malcolm. Ladies and Gent’s Get your popcorn ready for June 22, 2018 that’s when Fallen Kingdom is set to be released.
Ladies and Gentleman Jim from the office is all grown up and in a Horror movie now! This past weekend John was in Austin at SXSW 2018 to premier his latest film A Quiet Place, the reviews have started coming in and people are impressed/terrified! Check out some of the tweets…
#AQuietPlace is a masterclass in suspense. It weaponizes your own screams against you. The tension is so taut your stomach will turn in relentless knots. Totally deliciously terrifying. #SXSW18
#AQuietPlace: Wow. Opening night at #SXSW brought it *hard.* Thrilling, tremendous sound design and genuinely frightening. What could have been a “gimmick” flick strikes fear and tugs the heartstrings. Survival horror with the right influences.
#AQuietPlace was the PERFECT flick to kick off this fest: nerve-shreddingly tense, thoughtfully acted, and committed to the hopelessness of its setup. one hell of a debut for Krasinski, who’s going for something part Sam Peckinpah, part Cormac McCarthy, and NAILING it #SXSW18
